The Historic Town of OkehamptonLess than 4 miles away is the interesting town of Okehampton. It has the remains of the largest castle in Devon, reopening to the public from 25th March 2016. There are many local shops and supermarkets to stock up. The third Saturday of every month there is a Farmer's market held in St Jame's Chapel Square. A launderette, pubs, banks, minor injuries unit, Merlin's cinema, modern swimming pool and leisure centre, tennis courts, bowling, doctors surgery, dentist, fish and chips, Indian takeaway, regular buses and plenty of history. Finch FoundryFinch Foundry is just over 10 miles from Ashbury Caravan Park and is a 19th-century water-powered forge situated in the village of Sticklepath near Okehampton. It was originally used to produce agricultural and mining hand tools and at its peak produced around 400 edge tools a day. They do close during the winter, so please check opening times on the National Trust site. |

Castle DrogoApproximately 19 miles from Ashbury Caravan Park. Castle Drogo is a country house near Drewsteignton, Devon, England. It was built from 1911 and was finished in 1930 for Julius Drewe to designs by architect Edwin Lutyens, and is a Grade I listed building. Places to see include the Quay, Castle, Underground passages, Royal Albert Museum, Cathedral, shops, pubs, restaurants and so much more. There are plenty of cycle routes around the city and out into the countryside. There are Red Coat Guided walking tours of the city also from Cathedral Green. |
LauncestonLaunceston, ancient town of Cornwall is only 20 miles from Ashbury Caravan Park and a beautiful historic Cornish town. With a castle at the top and shops, pubs, restaurants and beautiful surrounding countryside. Launceston Steam Railway runs from the end of March until the end of October, however not everyday. There is a Launceston Town Trail. |
North CoastAn easy drive to the North Cornish coast, featuring miles of sandy beaches, great surfing beaches like Bude, Widemouth Bay, Crooklets and Sandymouth. The North and South Devon coasts are only about an hour's drive away. |

TavistockTavistock is just over 15 miles from Ashbury Caravan Park. An ancient stannary and market town within West Devon. It is situated on the River Tavy from which its name derives. A Pannier Market open Tuesday - Saturdays with a variety of stalls. There are shops, pubs, restaurants and at the Tavistock Wharf they have live music and shows well worth a visit. |
